Best places to visit in Udaipur

City Palace

The city palace in Udaipur can be found on the banks of Lake Pichola and it is among the most famous and romantic places not to miss by couples while in Udaipur. You will surely be mesmerized by the magnificent architecture of the palace which shows the wealth of the royal kingdoms of the Rajput dynasty. The palace is popularly known for its rich history and you will be awestruck by the beauty of the palace.

Bagore Ki Haveli

This building was built by the Prime Minister of Mewar during the late 18th century and it is among the best places to visit in Udaipur. The building can be found on the edge of Lake Pichola and after years of renovation, it is now used as a museum. The museum is a great place to go if you are a history lover as you will get an insight into the lifestyle of the royal family. Bagore Ki Haveli features over 100 rooms, terraces, and courtyards with numerous lovely frescoes and mirror work that you will like.

Some of the things that are on display are royal paintings, personal items, costumes of the kings, and traditional Rajasthani arts and crafts. You should also make sure you do not miss the puppet gallery and turban collection where you will find the biggest turban in the world. There is also a folk dance performance and puppet show that you can experience from 7 pm to 8 pm daily.

Lake Palace

This palace is among the romantic and royal hotels in the world. It was popularly known as Jag Niwas and it is one of the best places to visit in Udaipur, it is best to come here during the night. The heritage of this palace was restored and maintained by the Taj Group that took over the palace. You are going to find the palace close to the popular Lake Pichola.

Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar Lake

Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar Lake are the most popular man-made lakes in Udaipur and they are connected by a canal. The best thing to do here is to go on a boat ride on Lake Pichola to explore the city from a different perspective.

You can join a boat that departs from the Rameshwar Ghat in the City Palace gardens. For a more thrilling experience, you can rent a paddle or motorboat from Moti Magra hill to explore the Fateh Sagar Lake.

Ahar Cenotaphs

Ahar is among the popular destinations in Udaipur due to its archaeological significance. The site was used as the burial ground for the royal family. The memorial site also houses an archaeological museum where you will see interesting collections of rare monuments that date back to the 10th century.

Monsoon Palace

This palace is also known as Sajjan Garh and it is located high on a hill above the city. The palace is used by the royal family during the monsoon season and it belonged to the Mewar royal family before it is used by the government. The palace is a popular spot to go for mind-blowing sunset views over Udaipur.

The palace has been featured in varieties of movies such as the popular James Bond movie, Octopussy. To get to this palace, you will drive for about 30 minutes and pass through the Sajjan Garh Wildlife Sanctuary. The Wildlife Sanctuary does not allow auto rickshaws to pass through which means you will need to rent a car or book a special minivan that departs from the entrance to Bagore-Ki-Havely at 5 pm every day.

Shilpgram

Shilpgram is a rural arts and crafts complex that can be found on the outskirts of Udaipur. The complex was built by the government in 1986 to show the rural life and the traditions of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa. The complex houses hut from each state and it shows their distinctive architectural features.

It is also the best place to visit in Udaipur where you can buy a souvenir from the artisans. You can also try out the horse and camel rides while you are here.

You should make sure you do not miss this complex if you are lucky to be in Udaipur during the 10-day Shilpgram Arts and Crafts Fair in late December.

Kumbhalgarh Fort

This fort can be found about 64km from the city of Udaipur and it is among the architectural wonder in the city. The fort is among the most extravagant palaces and fort in the whole of Rajasthan. It features an enormous wall which covers more than 30km and it is 1900m above the sea level. You will enjoy the drive to the fort is fun and offers picturesque views. The highlight of the fort is that it offers mind-blowing views which makes it be among the most scenic places in the city.

Sajjan Garh Wildlife Sanctuary

This park stretches 5 square kilometers around the Monsoon Palace and it is a great place to go for animal lovers. The highlight of the sanctuary is the zoo which features spacious enclosures that spread over a wide expanse of land. The best way to explore the sanctuary is by renting an electric golf cart which cost 50 rupees per person. Some of the animals that you will find here are leopards, lions, deer, tigers, turtles, sloth bear, porcupines, and ostrich.

The sanctuary is open from 10 am to 6 pm daily and the entry fee is 35 rupees per person. You should also note that most of the animals sleep during the day and it is best if you visit after 4 pm.

What is Goram ghat? History of Goram ghat.

Goram ghat is one of the most beautiful places in Rajasthan. It is situated near to Kachhbali village, Deogarh, Rajsamand district of Rajasthan. It’s a local train station was built in 1932 by the Englishmen along with the help of former Mewar’s Maharana. It is a very popular place for a group picnic, family tour, a solo traveler in Rajasthan.

This place is connected with wildlife and situated in Aravali Hills, nature and small waterfalls and It is a wonderful place for nature photographer & wildlife lover, there is a 50 feet wide waterfall called “Jogmandi Waterfall” with a distance of 500 meters.

Goram ghat Train Timings

There is no direct train from Udaipur to Goram ghat, You have to take the meter gauge train from Marwar Junction to Goram Ghat Marwar i.e Mavli Pass Mg (52073) and it runs on every day of the week. timings Departure 06:35 am and reach 11:21 am. I have added some of the best places to visit in Udaipur city.

You can pick up the train from Khamli ghat railway station directly as it is the last railway station to visit Goram ghat. But there is a possibility that you don’t get any seat on the train as so many people to pick the train from Khamli ghat station. We took the train from Bejnal village which is nearest to us and fortunately, we got enough seats for our family. I listed all the information about goram ghat train below. Timings of Boarding the Train

• Boarding time from Khamli Ghat Station is 10:00 am.
• Boarding time from Goram Ghat Station is 12:30 pm.

Important Note – Currently Goram ghat train Timing has been changed. Arrival timing of the train was 4 pm before but now it is 12:30 pm. So you get only 1 hour to spend there.

Food & Hotel Facility in Goram ghat?

There is no restaurant or hotel there. There are no changing rooms. When I visited there was only one shop where you can buy biscuits, chips, water, tea, and other items. You can’t expect any major food there. You have to carry your food yourself. People used to buy biscuits to feed the monkey’s but please don’t throw wastage items there. There were so many people who were throwing garbage items everywhere on the railway track and even near the waterfall.

Unbelievable Scene of  the Train

No, I am not making you afraid of this journey but it’s true. On holidays you may experience this type of scene. I don’t think it’s a correct way to travel somewhere but it’s India and anything is possible here. It’s current season photo. (2019)

Jogmandi Waterfall

There is only one waterfall called jogmandi waterfall which is 50 feet wide. You can see the waterfall once monsoon has completely arrived. We were lucky so we enjoyed the waterfall as much as possible.

Temples to visit

There are several temples also that can be visited at Goram Ghat including Temples of Gorakhaath Ji, Lord Shiva, Bheru Nath Ji, Heenglaaj Mateshwari, Peepleshhwar Maharaj, etc.

Best time to Visit

The monsoon season is the best time to visit Goram ghat as you can enjoy the beauty of nature in the rainy season.
